Biofuels can be defined as a renewable source of energy that is produced from organic matter. They can be produced from biological resources that are readily accessible on a large scale and easily replenishable. They can also be defined as fuel derived from organic matter. They can be obtained directly from plants, or indirectly from agricultural, commercial, domestic, and/or industrial wastes.

Biofuels are designed to replace conventional fossil fuels like:

  • Gasoline
  • Diesel fuel
  • Coal

There are three main types of biofuel:

  • Ethanol
  • Biodiesel
  • Biojet fuel
