Biowaste is also referred to as biodegradable waste.

In simple terms, biowaste can be defined as any waste material that is organic or that is capable of decomposing under:

  • Aerobic conditions (In the presence of oxygen)
  • Anaerobic conditions (In the absence of oxygen)

Some examples of biowaste are:

  • Forestry and agricultural residues
  • Animal waste
  • Manure
  • Sewage sludge
  • Commercial food waste
  • Kitchen scraps
  • Garden waste
  • Paper and cardboard waste
  • Natural Textiles
