Lifecycle traceability means being able to track a product throughout its entire life, not just when it’s manufactured.

Under the Digital Product Passport (DPP), businesses are expected to maintain information about a product from the raw materials it is made from, through manufacturing, distribution, and use, and, where applicable, repair, refurbishment, reuse, recycling, and final disposal.

The idea is that anyone who needs the information; such as manufacturers, repairers, recyclers, regulators, or consumers can understand where the product came from, what it’s made of, how it has been used or repaired, and how it should be handled at the end of its life.

In simple terms, DPP creates a digital record of a product’s journey, making it easier to repair, reuse, recycle, and manage products more sustainably.
