PLA plastic can also be referred to as a Bioplastic. PLA Plastic by itself will take several years to biodegrade, maybe hundreds. In order to successfully compost PLA Plastic, it is important that it breaks down into digestible polymer fragments. To break down PLA Plastic the following conditions are required: Availability and presence of Oxygen and Moisture Temperature over 60°C 2/3 cocktail of organic substrate These conditions may be absent in home composting setups.
