The Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for the Non-ferrous metals is given under “The Hazardous and Other Wastes (Management and Transboundary Movement) Amendment Rules, 2025”.
These rules came into force on the 1st April 2026.
Non-ferrous metals are metals that do not contain iron in their composition. Non-ferrous metals include:
EPR means the responsibility of a producer for the sustainable management of the product until the end of its life.
They are designed to maximize the re-using and recycling of non-ferrous metals and to conserve their finite resources.
The core principle is that businesses involved in producing, selling, import, handling, or recycling the products made from these metals are now responsible for managing the waste generated at their end of life.
