An EU Declaration of Conformity is an official document which has to be prepared by the manufacturer to confirm that a product meets the requirements of the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation(ESPR) and other relevant EU laws. By issuing this document, the manufacturer formally accepts responsibility for ensuring the product complies with all applicable rules.

The declaration explains how the product meets the required standards. Having this declaration in place is mandatory before the CE marking can be applied and the product can be sold or used in the EU.

Responsibility for preparing and maintaining the declaration lies with the manufacturer. If the product is made outside the EU, the importer must make sure that the manufacturer has created the declaration and that it can be shown to authorities if requested.

If a product is covered by more than one EU law, only one EU Declaration of Conformity is needed. This single document can cover all applicable regulations, as long as each requirement is clearly addressed.

The declaration must be kept up to date and translated into the language required by the country where the product is sold. Manufacturers, or their authorized representatives, must retain it for ten years after the product is placed on the market.
