Who comes under the definition of ‘Producer’ in Battery Waste EPR?

Battery Waste Management Rules 2022 defines who can be referred to as a Producer for the context of the compliances.

As per the Rules, a Producer is an entity who engages in the following activities:

• Import of Battery (including in equipment or refurbished battery)
• Manufacture of Battery (including in equipment or refurbished battery)
• Sale of Battery (including in equipment or refurbished battery)

The activities may be carried out under its own brand or sale of battery by other manufacturers or suppliers under their respective brands.

Battery producers of every chemistry register stream-wise, as set out under waste streams covered by EPR.
