Batteries. From 18 February 2027, the EU Battery Regulation requires a Digital Product Passport (DPP) for three kinds of battery. They are electric vehicle batteries, light means of transport batteries such as e-bike packs, and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Only new car and van types under Euro 7 start sooner, with their own vehicle passport from 29 November 2026. Everything else comes later.
Which batteries are left out?
Portable batteries, the kind in phones and laptops, and industrial batteries of 2 kWh or less do not need a passport.
What comes after batteries?
Other laws already have dates:
- detergents: 23 September 2029
- toys: 1 August 2030
- cars and vans, under the end-of-life vehicles law: 1 September 2032
- construction products: 18 months after the Commission’s passport act takes effect, once the product’s family has moved under the 2024 rules; neither has happened yet
And the products under the Ecodesign Regulation?
They come group by group, in the order of the Commission’s working plan of April 2025:

These are planning years, not deadlines. A passport duty starts only when a group’s rules apply, normally 18 months after they take effect. As of October 2026, none had been adopted.
For example, steel rules adopted in December 2026 would take effect around March 2027, after a two-month objection period and publication. The steel passport would then apply from around September 2028 at the earliest.
